April

Man, I gotta stop the month long gaps between entries.

Nothing to exciting since the last one. Went to Sun Peaks resort at the end of March for some epic snowboarding. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, no wind at all, and lots of snow. The only thing that could've made it better was a couple fresh inches the night before..but i digress.

Sun Peaks side note: Learned a couple new shots at a pub called "Bottom's Up!" that is located in Sun Peaks village.

Shot 1 interaction with the bartender went like this.

Me: I'll have a shot (duh...clearly hammered at this point)
Bartender: What can I get ya?
Me: I don't know what I want
Bartender: How about a "Chuck Norris"?
Me: What's a "Chuck Norris"?
Bartender: A roundhouse kick to the face
Me:.....You had me at Chuck Norris.

The bartender then proceeded to one of the nastiest shots I've ever consumed. Although they weren't a roundhouse kick to the face...they were something fierce.

I also learned a "Grenade" shot. A grenade is simply a jager bomb, with a shot of goldschlagger. The jager shot, and the goldschlagger are leaned against each other in the glass of redbull so as neither is touching the redbull. The idea is to pull the pin of the grenade (goldschlagger), slam it, and then do the jager bomb.

Needless to say after a Chuck Norris and 3 Grenades, I was feeling great and not seeing straight.

Good news on the work front. We recently went to 3 shifts plus a call list and I made one of the shifts. I was told I was top out of 40 candidates to make it, and they only took 4 total. I'm quite proud of myself as I haven't really been going out of my to get noticed, but I suppose my work is solid enough for the promotion.

The one thing that is aggravating me about this job is all the days off. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for as many days as possible, but I feel like getting a second job to fill the time and earn some more cash.

The only problem with a second job is that the days of my current job change weekly so a second job would be hard to maintain under the hours a company would want.

I wish I had something I could do from home to make money...custom woodworking, home assembly of something, or some sort of website that I could work on during my days off. Hmmm...I'm going to start picking peoples brains for some ideas.

Sports is a huge part in my life right now (more so than usual)

Ive recently started playing ice hockey again in preparation for the summer league season. A bunch of friends will be on my team which should make it fun. I hope I can get back to the form I was in for roller hockey, but skating on ice is a totally different animal.

NHL playoffs are just around the corner, and the Canucks are basically locked into third position in the west. Bad news there is we could face the Red Wings in the first round, not something I want to do.

Opening day in the MLB goes in less than a day. Cant say I'm excited about the Chicago Cubs (favorite team) chances this season, but stranger things have happened. They've got a good rookie in Tyler Colvin on the roster this year. He hit for a .437 average this spring and could be a rookie of the year threat if he stays in the show all season.

This has gone on long enough I feel. I'm up way to early today. Time to go think of a way to make a side income.

WHAT A MONTH!

This has been one of the most tiring, draining times of my life. Its also been one of the best.

My new job is in full swing now, and the 12 hour shifts haven't drained me too much. I work only 3 or 4 days a week, 12 hours a day. Its the best schedule i've ever had at a job being that I still get full hours, and it gives me a 3 or 4 day weekend every week.

Between work, the olympics, and partying during the olympics, I haven't had much time to work out or run or anything. Somehow in the month and a half since I started im down 11 pounds. Given the amount of beer i've drank over the time, i'm quite happy with it.

My shifts at work are other 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am for night shift. Doesnt leave me much time for cardio, weights etc.

I partied way to much in February. I fully intend to take March and April to chill out, and not party so much. Im gearing up for a friends stag in Vegas in May, so might as well spend the cash down there instead.

Im hoping to maybe lose another 8 pounds by the end of the month, which seems doable. I've just got to get out there and do it.

2010 continues to be a great year. Positive thinking is keeping me in a good state of mind so far, and it will continue!!!!

Olympic Update

So its only been 1 day of competition in the 2010 Winter Olympics, and I cant help but shake the feeling that we're (Canada) on our way to a letdown. Now, I know its early, and a lot can and will happen between now and the end of the games.

I personally think Jenn Heil only received silver due to her last jump. She strayed a bit to her left, and had to correct it at the end, and that tiny detail may have cost her gold. Im still feelin bad for her. She has plans to retire after next season, and a Gold medal wouldve been a great way to send her off.

Yesterday on the ice was a mixed bag. Down at the "Rink on Renfrew", Canadas other gold medal threat on the first day, didnt even make the finals.

But over on the ice at Canada hockey place, the Canadaian Womens hockey team made a strong statment to the world. When you play us in hockey, you will be playing defence..A LOT!!!!!

Thats it for now..alpine skiing in Whistler has again been delayed due to fog.

Side note: Megan Agosta on Team Canadas womens hockey team is a major babe

OLYMPIC DAY

Today marks the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics with the opening ceremonies set to go off at 5:00pm at BC Place. For people that have been against the olympics....get over it, its here, embrace it, and have a good time.

Yesterday I finished my first week of work in over a year. Ive had quite a few jobs over the years, and I gotta say, this is by far the best job ive had so far. The job itself is interesting, the people are fantastic, the perks of the job are second to none, and the potential of growth in the future is unmatched.

I havent been working out as much this week, due to being tired after work. But since the last post (about 2 weeks) Ive lost 5 pounds...so thats not so bad.

Thats all Ive got to say this time

Vancouvers just a sexy bitch waiting to take all her clothes off and show what shes got!!!!

GO CANADA GO!!!!!!!!!

Long time, no blog

Wow, its been 3 months since the last post. Better get on that this year.

This entry is gonna be a mish mash of different topics.

1. First off, after the worst year of my life in 2009..2010 has started off better than I could of hoped. I finally obtained a job once again, and its one that Im pretty stoked on.

Theres no way I wouldve made it through this year without the support of good friends and family behind me, and its all payed off now.

2. We're just about 2 weeks away from the Winter Olympics here in Vancouver, and I couldnt be more jacked for it. Theres a lot of worry floating around about the seemingly balmy weather we've had here for the past while, as the word balmy, and winter sure dont mix. My only thought is this....If Cypress Mountain doesnt get more snow, and conditions arent perfect..cant we just move the events up to that little ol bunny slope 2 hours north...ummm Whistler??

Its the #1 mountain in the world for a reason, and its been puking snow up there.

On another Olympic note, I will be heading into the heart of the action the day of the gold medal mens ice hockey game. Assuming Canada makes it of course. One of my best friends lives literally a stones throw from GM Place, and I fully intend on partying/rioting/drinking with all the Canada faithful in the downtown core after we take home gold.

3. Staying at GM Place...there's something really special happening with the Vancouver Canucks right now...and in particular the top line.

Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, and Alex Burrows have been playing like men possessed this season.

- Henrik leads the league in scoring (6 points up on Ovechkin at time of writing), is 2nd in assists, and has already established a career high in goals with 24 (9th overall).
- Daniel is 25th in league scoring with 48 points in 34 games.
- Burrows has been lights out this past month. Currently on a 12 game point scoring streak, with 13 goals and 19 points in that span. (including back to back hat tricks).........Not to shabby for a ECHL grad that was never drafted.

Ive also decided to dedicate myself to getting in shape. Being off work for an entire year has taken its toll on my body, and im at my all time heaviest. For the past week I have been running a minimum of 5km per day, and have changed my eating habits. I started January 18th, which is exactly 6 months from my birthday in June. I hope to be beach ready by that time.

Ill probably have some updates throughout the coming blogs of my progress

I just realized a common theme through this cluster of topics, and thats positivity. 2010 is shaping up to be a great one for the city of Vancouver, and its inhabitants.

Cheers!
